Courtship Update: Our First Fight

The other night when Tyler and I were on the phone, we had a conversation something like this...

Perry: "My mom used to offer a bounty for killing houseflies.  We got two pistachios per fly we smooshed."

Tyler: "It should have been cashews."

Perry: "Pistachios!"

Tyler: "Cashews!"

Perry: "Pistachios!  ...Hey!  Was that our first fight?!"

Tyler: "I knew you were about to say that!  What about between pecans and pistachios?"

Perry: "Pecans."

Tyler: "Good!"

So yes, after talking about a truckload of huge, weighty, and important topics, all we could find to argue about was whether Mom should have offered pistachios or cashews as bounty.  And Tyler's brilliant conflict resolution skills saved the day by suggesting we agree on pecans instead. ;)

Thrice Warmed

Yesterday, Dad, Mom, Paul, and I were out in the woods.  The B's are graciously helping us get firewood from the abundant supply on their land, even letting us fill their pick-up since we don't have one!  Mr. B ran the chainsaw; Dad split the huge rounds smaller; and Mom, Paul, and I loaded the pieces into the pick-up.  The whole time I was being pursued by termites... why?  I have no idea.  I would think with so much tasty wood around, they would be too busy, but apparently I was pretty sweet-smelling.  On second thought... perhaps not.  It was a warm day for September in Oregon, so we heated up pretty good during the whole process.  We filled the truck right up to the tailgate and called it a day.  Oh, but wait... one last thing.  We asked to pose with Mr. B's chainsaw.  He has a 32" bar on that thing, and I know Paul and I aren't exactly the tallest people on the planet, but hey—THAT'S ONE BIG CHAINSAW!

So now we have a big pile of rounds and quarters next to the house ready to be split.  That will warm us a second time, and this winter when it's chilly outside, the same wood will warm us again... in the woodstove.

It was good, hard work; I enjoyed it.  And I will enjoy wearing myself out swinging that 8-pound splitting maul.  Just my inner pioneer-woman coming out, I guess. ;)

Scary Socks and My Fancy Hat

Looks kind of African or something doesn't it?!  I don't think I will be able to wear shoes with these socks due to the needles poking out from every side. ;)  No really, I have started knitting a pair of socks out of grey heathered alpaca wool.  When they are done, they should fit very nicely into a shoe and be soft, warm, and altogether a very fine pair of socks.

And, the paper hat... well, it's just me having fun with Paul's fire-starting materials while he was laying a fire last night.  Ever so fashionable, aren't I?

So basically besides normal life, it's socks, hats, and finishing the loose ends of high-school that fill my day... oh yeah, and long-distance calls from somebody...

Really, Really Long-Distance Courtship

And so the long-distance courtship continues.  Only, for now it's really long-distance because Tyler is in Scotland!  In other words, he's fixing to turn in at a late hour at 3pm my time.  Makes communication a little tricky, but I'm so glad he's having a blast.  You can follow his travels and see some perfectly lovely pictures at http://irishragamuffin.blogspot.com.

Just yesterday, I got an email from my friend, Lisa, saying to go read her blog.  I found the most hilarious and silly poem she and her family had written; it's truly a must-read: http://musicalcowgirl4christ.blogspot.com/2010/09/our-ode-to-tylerperry-courtship.html.

I'll keep this post brief because I feel swamped right now, but hopefully you'll be hearing more from us girls soon...

Courtship!

I can hardly believe it.

This is my good friend Tyler K whom I have known since we were both 11. During their week-long visit up here, he asked permission to court me, to which both my parents and myself happily said 'yes.' Tyler and I will be seeking the Lord to find if it is His will that we be married. He is 19, will receive his bachelors in history at the end of this year, and then get a full-time job to support a family. I am so honored and thrilled that he chose me and I am still marvelling at the miracles God has worked in bringing all this together. Please pray for the Lord's wisdom for us both. Don't Miss the Meteor Shower

The Perseid Meteor shower will be peaking the night of Thursday, Aug. 12th, early morning of Friday, the 13th.  It is estimated there will be one meteor per minute.  Don't miss this excellent opportunity to observe and discuss God's amazing creation!

(I received this information via the e-newsletter "Biblical Astronomy Update" by David Rives Ministries: http://www.davidrivesministries.org.)

I apologize (and make excuses) for my absence from the blog:

Book Busy

I have been very preoccupied with getting my book self-published and for sale on the internet... and it's finally available for purchase!  Now that I've jumped that hoop, I have to concentrate on marketing the book.  (If you want to help me with that, you can use the linking button at http://www.heavensdeclare.info on your blog or website, tell friends, homeschool groups, e-mail loops, etc.  And, might I add, there's reward for you doing this, because each time you do one of those things, you can enter again in the drawing for a free autographed copy of my book.  Just thought I'd throw that out there...!)  Also, I am finishing the rough draft of my second book, this one on the topic of light.

Word-Processing Busy

On top of that, I have a church bulletin to make every week, and I just had a newsletter to design and edit for our volunteer fire district.  Plus, there are always extra signs and handouts to type for Dad.

A Fun Visit from Arizona

We enjoyed our visit with the M's from AZ.  They arrived Monday morning, and we went down and met them at the church parking lot; we showed them the church and the little country store, and then took them down to our place.  We hung out the rest of the day, then took them down to visit the C's just before dinner.  The visit was so short that Dad invited the C's to bring their dinner down to our house.  So we had three families (plus the mother of the B's who dropped by with some groceries she picked up in town) all eating Mexican food: our tacos and burritos, and the C's taco salad.  Very good food, and very good fun.

Firewood!

Today, around 4 o'clock, we are going to gather firewood.  A couple from church who own several hundred acres of timber are going to let us have some firewood... oh, goody!  That means more wood to split.  I enjoy splitting wood, although the 8-pound splitting maul does get heavy after time!  Last year my sisters were watching out the window, and they said when our landlord's son came around the corner of the house next door and saw 5' 2", 105-pound me splitting wood, he looked really amused.  I just can't imagine why... can you?

Going 50 and Turning Grey

Yup.  I continue learning to drive.  But, this time, as you may have surmised from the above title, I actually went 50 on a straight stretch of the highway.  Related to the alleged grey hair?  Maybe, maybe not.  We were sitting at the table and my mom found a single strand of my hair that was so light we couldn't decide if it was blonde or grey!  The Bible says grey hair is a crown, but it doesn't say that about blonde hair... hmm...
