Watch that Flood Watch

Last Sunday we had a flood watch for our area.  It was pretty incredible to us Arizona-born kids.  Of course the locals were anxious, but somewhat unimpressed because of the massive floods they saw in '96 and '06 (or '07... can't remember).  Basically, all the creeks, rivers, and the lake were up pretty high, but it wasn't actually a flood even though where the banks were lower, it did spill into people's fields.

Enjoy the drama...

Picture 1

This river is usually about 1/3 this size... it's up out of its banks, though not quite up to the road.

Picture 2

This is a bridge we cross almost every time we go someplace (church, fire station, town, etc.), and, again, it is usually much lower and way less muddy.  The water was really moving fast so it was good it wasn't up to the bridge.

Picture 3

This is the other side of the same bridge.  The water was really wide at this point and just around the bend, it had backed up into a super swampy area... full of big lake-like puddles.  Notice the trees going for a swim.

Picture 4

The B's house is high and dry, but the creek sure was full... and then some!  Usually you would be able to see it snake back and forth a couple times in this picture.  Most of the year you can see the steep, high banks... not in this picture, though.

Picture 5

Another shot of the B's place; same creek, lower spot.  It was getting pretty close to their road and bridge (off to the right), but I don't think it actually covered either.

Picture 6

Here is the very full lake.  The water was absolutely rushing out the spillway on the other side of the dam!
